Description
Black Vellum is a simple and clean user interface inspired by black vellum paper inscribed with gold ink. Black Vellum Toolbars reskins the main toolbar (skill and experience bar) and offers a variety of graphics for user customization. The default toolbar will work without modification. The tiny, right, small and wide toolbars require editing of the skin definition file. Black Vellum Toolbars is included in Black Vellum v0.4 but is distributed separately if the user only wants to reskin the skill and experience bar.

Default Toolbar

The default toolbar works with any resolution without modification since it does not move the toolbar elements from their default positions. This toolbar includes the background graphics for two quickslot bars. The SkinDefinition.xml file distributed with the user interface uses the contents of SkinDefinition_default.xml in its "TOOLBAR" section.

Custom Toolbar

Custom toolbars are also provided in tiny, right, small and wide versions. The tiny and small versions are available with backgrounds for between 2 and 6 quickslot bars. The right and wide versions are available with 4, 6 or 8 quickslot bar backgrounds. All four of these toolbars require modification of the SkinDefinition.xml file under "TOOLBAR GRAPHICS" and "TOOLBAR SIZING". Aligning the location of docked quickslot bars requires modification of the SkinDefinition.xml file under "DOCKED QUICKSLOTS".

To customize the tiny, right, small and wide toolbars:
  • Replace the "TOOLBAR" and "DOCKED QUICKSLOTS" sections of SkinDefinition.xml by pasting in the same sections from one of the following files. a. SkinDefinition_custom_tiny.xml, b. SkinDefinition_custom_right.xml, c. SkinDefinition_custom_small.xml, d. SkinDefinition_custom_wide.xml
  • Under "TOOLBAR GRAPHICS", uncomment the line for the number of quickslot bars desired. Comment all other lines.
  • Under "TOOLBAR SIZING", uncomment the line for your screen resolution. (Alternatively calculate the proper X and Y positions for ID="ToolbarField" based on your resolution and update those values. Use letterbox_size.ods to help with calculations. Comment all other lines.)
  • If desired, uncomment the PanelFile and Element lines under "DOCKED QUICKSLOTS". Calculate the proper X and Y positions for ID="Toolbar_Quickslot_Extended_Scaler" based on your resolution and update those values. Use letterbox_size.ods to help with calculations.
  • Save the modified SkinDefinition.xml file.

Version History
  • v1.1 - added right custom toolbar, fixed small graphics issues
  • v1.0 - initial release for Volume 3, Book 2 (Free to Play)

Yep, your code is right for ...custom_tiny with a 1680 x 1050 resolution.

Yeah, that's how all the toolbar skins work. The background image is separate from the quickslot locations. Sorry if that wasn't clear but it's the way the UI is coded by Turbine.

I'm still trying to decipher which 90kB files you're talking about though... You lost me.
Never mind, I understand now. You mean Black Vellum's xml, not Black Vellum Toolbars. See my PM.

I meant the whole of SkinDefinition.xml's content along with each of the other SkinDefinition_custom.xml's. So that you have several files that are ~90kb in size. It would ease the burden on people having to work out where to paste over the code.

As for just renaming and using the custom.xml's, it would just be part of the UI and not everything.

I placed the DOCKED QUICKSLOT code in and followed the math but still the upper (2nd) slot bar was still inactive.

Is this correct for 1680 x 1050?
Code:
<PanelFile ID="ID_UISkin_Toolbar_Quickslot_Extended_Scaler">
        <Element ID="Toolbar_Quickslot_Extended_Scaler" X="635" Y="823" Width="460" Height="175" />
    </PanelFile>
---------

edit: I think i realised the issue here. I was expecting the slots to be functional slots, but they are just backgrounds for me to place the default or plugin slots over/inside...?

Why havnt you just given us the xml's in full so then we just can rename their filename(s)? (then tweak them)

Also the upper row of slots (on tiny at least) dont accept anything being dropped in them.

What i dont understand is, why do we have to copy + paste parts from file to file. Why havnt you just given us the xml's in full so then we just can rename their filename(s)? (then tweak them)

Also the upper row of slots (on tiny at least) dont accept anything being dropped in them.

If the skin isn't showing up in the drop down list, it's probably an XML formatting issue. Try an online XML validator to help you de-bug. Also text editors with XML highlighting helps (like Notepad++). LotRO Duo :: User Interface has some links to useful tools/websites.

Thank you! After getting notepad ++ I saw that there was 1 line that I needed to comment and had overlooked. The highlighting helped tons! I was just not seeing that line looking at black on white.

I have tried several times, using the instructions in the read me, to get the small version of the skin to work with 1600 x 900 resolution and every time I log in and go to the skin drop down this one isn't even listed.

I have tried several times, using the instructions in the read me, to get the small version of the skin to work with 1600 x 900 resolution and every time I log in and go to the skin drop down this one isn't even listed. I've been at this for hours and have no idea what I am doing wrong. I thought I was competent enough to edit a file by following instructions, but apparently I was mistaken.

Huh? I used line breaks. Maybe they're not recognized by Notepad. Does it look better in WordPad or Word? (Ubuntu user here.)
