I'm not sure if it would be practical for you but there is a third possible option (or consider it a modified version of option #2). Set up a web based Wiki where players could submit their own entries and you could then extract the data from the back end to add items to Compendium whenever you are set to do an update. It might be good to keep track of the source of the Compendium data - Lorebook vs website vs Wiki so that users could know what the source of an entry is in case any erroneous or outdated data gets included.
This is what I have wanted from day one. However, I do not want to take the size of project on by myself. I've always wanted this to be a team effort long term. And while I have the skill do this by myself, the time investment I do not. I'd be willing to partner with existing wiki's, or build a new one. Long term what I'd like is a 3 piece project..

1) LUA based addon for viewing, collecting, and using existing data
2) Collection & submission engine
3) Web based version of #1 with more detailed authoring tools.

I'm left with either of two choices ...
  1. wait for lorebook to get updated as they have broken several things that make consolidating the data I want difficult with the existing mechanisms I have in place. I've seen post that they have recognized that its broken, but I honestly have no timeframe or if they will get to fixing it
  2. take the data I do have, find alternate sources as well, and start maintaining my own database of information so when it breaks, I'm not left hanging again in the future.

I personally want to go the second route but it is a lot of work and won't lead to timely updates if I do that upfront.

If I go with that route I will likely have a few minor releases to add deed and quest tracking by server / character which has been requested several times. I would also like to get some of the missing items -or- the ability to add items to compendium built in. As well as make compendium work with another addon of mine; Waypoint.

Regardless, my current effort is being place into mods to the UI for the deed and quest tracking.

I have it, i'll send you a PM with the link (the server where I hosted it hasn't got much bandwidth so I don't want to make it public).
I also have a (python) script I used recently to make my own copy of the lorebook item database. Can send it also.
Thank you very much! I'll take a look and see what I may be missing between this list and mine.

I've known they are slow to add new items to their database, but I had not recieved any item feedback since the recent update. Thank you for the heads up.

I am glad to see a response from Turbine in that thread that they are looking into fixing their api. The download in that thread would have been nice a month, but looks as if it is a broken link atm. I got the ids in a round about way, but if someone has a downloaded copy I'd like to compare for accuracy purposes.

Don't want to spoil your efforts, but I don't know if you're aware of the fact that data.lotro.com and the lorebook are currently missing some items.

Thank you for your feedback. When I update deeds soon, I will use this as a test case.

Releasing a 1.7-beta version with the item and crafting data for now. There are around 2000 new items lvl 66+.. Woot! I was able to shrink the database by removing duplicate items and items no longer referenced by lorebook. If it means something that you still want these, let me know and I'll include them along with a filter in a future update (or feel free to download older version). I have not done much reading on the new raids, but if you are familiar with the loot tables, I am interested in including these. I have a simple spreadsheet that I keep track of user submitted raid loot, and I'd be happy to let someone add to it, or submit updates.

I found bugs on lorebook with their location & zone data, and while I can harvest new quests, it might leave out data I'd rather not lose. One area folks can help with quests & deeds are filling me in on what new zones & areas are in the new release.

Status update.
  • Item compendium data collected
  • Crafting compendium data collected
  • 1/2 of quest data collected

Have yet to do
  • Modify item & crafting filters to encompass new tiers, levels, etc..
  • Figure out new zones & areas of expansion and incorporate that into quest compendium
  • Quest compendium parsers appear to be broken for quest reward data
  • Look into MoorMaps API after expansion so coordinates in new zones & areas get across correctly
  • Start on deed compendium
