Hi gjpc
I am using 4.8.11a. I tried your instructions, and the same error keeps occurring. So, to be safe, I completely deleted CombatAnalysis from my plugins and removed my captain's profile folder. I did a fresh download and a clean reinstall of CA. Opened up the traits configuration and without even changing anything, I tried to select Red, and the same error happened. Is it potentially because my Captain is a River Hobbit and Comat Analysis does not yet recognise River Hobbits? Apart from that, I don't know why this is happening. If so, CA could potentially run into other issues with other classes that are River Hobbits.
Hey Xanthion,
I have been running a lore master river hobbit since the update and before that I did a River Hobbit Hunter on bullrun, all are working fine. For a further check I created a river hobbit captain this morning and get no error messages. I am truely at a loss trying to replicate your error. I'll spend a little more time on this. Do your other captains all work?
Best,
Landal aka gjpc

I just created a Man Captain to test it out. As soon as I entered the game, I opened up CA and tried changing to Red without making any changes and the error happened again.
Yet on my River Hobbit Rune Keep, there is no issues. All my other classes seem fine. It must be something to do with my client... Even after a fresh download and clean reinstall, the error persists with just that specific trait specialisation. While is Yellow or Blue trait configuration, I can created a new Red configuration without issue. It seems it doesn't like the name Lead the Charge lol. I'll keep troubleshooting, but I am almost out of ideas.

Xan, Great hint: "Lead the Charge" I'll take a look at that.

So this is very weird. I manually edited the CombatAnalysisTraits.plugindata. Before doing this, in game, I created a new Red configuration and called it 'Red spec'. Then in the file, I deleted the section 'Lead the Charge', put 'Red spec' in its place but renamed the title to 'Lead the Charge'. Its working now.

I restarted the game it fixed it.

I Apologize Xanthion, I did not realize you were using the Plugin Manager->Combat analysis->Options->Buffs->Trait Configuration feature.
I thought you were simply changing traits in the LOTRO traits panel. Blue line to red line etc.

As you may know, I did not originate CA code, Evandale did. Truthfully I don't know what that panel does and I have never used it. Interestingly my new River hobbit produces the error in the Skills.lua just as your does. My very old Man Captain only produces the LUA error Online\Plugins\CombatAnalysis\Utils\Misc.lua:488: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value) on any change.

Are you happy using your fix and leaving the more enthusiastic CA users to find the solution here in this thread? I'll look at the code sooner or later and see if I can apply a fix in the next release.

Ahh... that makes sense. I was getting very frustrated with myself wondering why I am the only person with this issue and even after a clean install, it didn't fix it.
The error seems to be in the Lead the Charge section of the CombatAnalysisTraits.plugindata file. My fix is working perfectly and I am happy to use it. Other members many need a little more explanation on the fix as I was very vague in explaining what I actually did. But if they ask, I will be happy to share in more detail.
I love messing around with the Trait Configuration feature. CA still comes pre-loaded with buffs and debuffs that no longer exist or have been changed/renamed, as well as new buffs and debuffs are missing. So I manually add them per class.

I don't know how big of a project it might be, but it would be really cool if one day, CA could be updated to sub-categorise buffs to the players who applied them to you. Such as, damage is sub-categorised by you, your pet, your escorts. Likewise, healing is the same. Sub-categorises your healing, then any other player that healed you. At the moment, I manually delete all buffs from CA and then re-add them for just me. Having every buff applied by every player when they are not categorised into the players who applied them is information overload. Not necessary, but wishful thinking.

Checking in to find out how the update is going... Update 38 comes in next week (11/8, unless they find another reason to delay it another week.) Toggle-able options for:

Damage done per character, instead of per session.
Displaying whole numbers in damage sections, bypassing modifiers k, m, b, etc.

Could these be done?

File Name Error

I sometimes get the error "the specified file name was to long (maximum length = 64 characters)", seemingly at random (usually in the middle of combat). This only happens on one character, for some reason. I have looked for a solution but have not found one. I'm no programmer, so I need really basic instructions on how to prevent the error from happening

Please let me know the type of character you get the message with. Also please copy the exact error message into your reply. Thanks.

It is a Rune Keeper. The error says "The specified file name was too long (maximum length = 64 characters)".

Does the character have a very long name?

Is there a fix for this? It happens more often during raids and it's very distracting, because it's a box right in the middle of the screen that I have to click on to dismiss. The character it happens on has eight characters in their name, same as the other character I use the plugin on (who does not get the error).

Is it in one of the new raid areas that just opened up last week? They are also reclassifying the RK skills:

Rune-keeper's Fulgurite and Molten Runestone damage is now correctly classified as Tactical, so it will not bypass Incoming Damage modifiers.

This may have affected the filename code, although I doubt it.

I have never seen CA put up a dialog box. Please upload a screen shot.
