Description
Imez's Wheel Plugin
Version 1.0.0
Updated 16/11/2010

This plugin represents a simple, intuitive quickslot extension. It allows you to easily create additional quickslots with one click. It builds upon previous scrolling "Carousel" plugins by implementing customizable drag-and-drop shortcut lists and right-click list switching for each window.

Features
  • One-click Wheel Window Creation
  • Draggable Minimalistic Wheel Windows
  • Scrollable Drag & Drop Shortcuts
  • Switchable Shortcut Lists
How It Works

When you first load the wheel plugin, the options window will be visible at the top-left of the screen. This window will remember its position.

Pressing the "New Wheel" button will create an empty white wheel window.

Drag-and-drop skills or items onto the wheel window's shortcut to add them to that window's shortcut list. The wheel window will change from white to clear if a shortcut is present. Each wheel window will remember the list of shortcuts added to it.

Right-click on the wheel window's shortcut to toggle that wheel's alternate list.

Rotate the mouse wheel above a wheel window's shortcut to scroll through its shortcuts. Each wheel window will remember which shortcut is displayed.

Left-click and drag within 10 pixels above the top of a wheel window to move it around the screen. Wheel windows will remember their position.

Right-click within 10 pixels above the top of a wheel window to open the options window.

To remove a wheel window:
  1. Open the options window
  2. Rotate the mouse wheel above the "Wheel X" label
  3. Press the "Remove" button
Examples

I currently have wheels for:
  • "Return To" Skills (Right-click to toggle Map)
  • Mounts (Right-click to toggle Goats)
  • LM Combat Pets (Right-click to toggle Non-combat Pets)
  • LM Pet Buffs
  • LM Warding Circles
I'm sure I'll come up with some more.

Installation

Make sure the ".zip" file is extracted to the "... /Lord of the Rings Online/Plugins" directory. The resulting path should be "... /Lord of the Rings Online/Plugins/Imez/Wheel/ ..." which is where you'll see the ".lua" files.

If LOTRO is already open type: "/plugins refresh".

To load the plugin type: "/plugins load wheel".

If this is your first time loading the plugin, the options window should appear in the top-left area of the screen.

This plugin has not been tested on non-English clients.

Problems?

Most loading problems are due to the plugin being extracted in the wrong place.

If you experience any other errors, feel free to contact me in-game (on Brandywine) or via this thread, PM or email: [email protected]

This is my first plugin. I'm open to any feedback.

Error Message

I've been using your Wheel plugin for a few months and it was working fine. I came back today after a month hiatus from the game and I can't get it to load. I get this error message:
...of the Rings Online\Plugins\Imez\Wheel\WheelSlot.lua:76: Invalid shortcut for quickslot specified.
Unable to load "Wheel".

When I do a plugin refresh, Wheel is listed as available. Did a patch break the Wheel plugin?

Edit 3/12/2012: I installed the new patch that was released today and the wheel started working again, at least on my main character.

New problem

Just noticed today that when I try and create a new wheel, it doesn't show and I can't populate it. Also when I switch to the alternate list on a wheel that has only the first list populated it disappears and I have to reload the plugin to get the first list to show.

Is this plugin broken since the patch? I just installed it, but when I click New Wheel it doesn't seem to give me any place to put my skill icons.

Excellent! Thanks to both of you. I probably should have taken a look in the documentation when I noticed the change (it's there).

Re: Removing buttons

Quote:
Is there a way to remove individual buttons from a wheel? I accidentally add the wrong skill to a wheel and couldn't find a way to remove it. I had to destroy the whole (very large) wheel and start from scratch. Very annoying. However, all in all a great plugin.

Oh and would it be possible to change it so that it can be moved using the ctrl-\ command rather than dragging it with that very tiny and hard to locate area? Some times, when I try and move it, it won't stay put. I drag it to the new location and it jumps back to it's previous placement. When this happens, I have to right click it and get the alternate list to show and it then drags properly.
Currently there's no way to remove a single button, so you do have to destroy the wheel to make changes. I will issue an update to handle list editing after I finish my current plugin project, which should be soon (tm).

I could change the drag behavior to a toggle based on the ctrl-\ command, but people remap their UI movement keys. As far as I know there's no way to access what the user has as their default, so this would mean the user would have to remap the toggle per lua plugin. That seems annoying, but it is doable.

I have not experienced the wheel jumping after a drag operation, but I may alter the drag code to use the display's mouse coordinates instead of the drag event's arguments to make sure it is in the right place at all times.

Also, I believe that the last November patch changed the way lua-implemented quickslots respond to right-click events, and that this action now activates the quickslot in addition to switching the active list in the wheel. So, the alternate list toggle may be changed to something other than a right click, since I don't think it is possible to override that event. I may remove it entirely if I can't come up with an intuitive switch.

I'll try to add something to this effect when I get around to updating this plugin, which will be right after I finish the plugin I'm currently working on.

Removal Question and Clarifying Suggestion

This is a nice plugin. It is simple and to the point.

One question and one suggestion:

Q: How do remove a single button from the wheel? I tried to drag one off and release but, that didn't work...

S: In your instructions it would be helpful to mention that to bring up the options menu, all you have to do is right click within 10 pixels of the top of one of your wheels.

Again, nice work. Thanks.

Worked very well, but...needs navigation cues!

Very nice, worked fine for me. I definitely like the ability to have a right click alt shortcut list.

Suggestion time: The screen grabs you show did make me think that there might be an option to show 3 boxes when scrolling--the middle being the actual selection with the above/below boxes showing the previous and next choices coming up. I see now that you are just showing 3 wheel boxes (right? Unless I'm missing something. lol.).

The ability, when scrolling, to pop-up the previous/next choices like that though would be hugely useful in navigating through the shortcuts applied to a given wheel--as is, the problem is that with no cues as to what's coming/what you just passed, there's a lot of scrolling back and forth to get the item you want. It's too easy to sail past it. Other carousel plugins have shown 1 before/1 after (in a window, which I'm not so crazy about).

Adding an (optimally) configurable number of floating slots to show above/below (or...right/left) containing the next in line/previous in line, would make this very useful--as is, I'm going to keep using it for my mounts but I have to pay so much attention, and try to go slow when switching 'em it's a bit less easy to use than, say, tonic bars would be for the same purpose. Adding those before/after helpers in navigation, though, would make it a viable alternative to a hidden quickslot bar.
