Re: Unable to Load the Plugin

Quote:
I tried to load the plugin, but I get the unable to load the plugin message. I have other plugins running, so it is not the folder issue. Any suggestions?
Frankly I'm not sure at the moment - I'll look into it, but I can't say when a fix will be released. It will most likely be part of an actual update. Sorry about the issues - but after such overwhelming positive feedback on this concept - I've been working on making a far more useful version.

nothing happens *tear*

I downloaded it and loaded it into the folder, went in and /plugins load lotromaps and nothing happens. Well, it does say Loaded plugin "lotromaps". /plugins list does read out LotROMaps (0.01) so I fear i have the wrong version downloaded even though I got it from the big download button. Is there any reason the map wouldn't work like resolution or settings or any other fix anyone knows about?

The November update broke this plugin. Since the purpose of this release was for demonstration purposes, and only included a single map - I really don't see the need to release a fix until I am able to release something that's actually useful. Regrettably this has been delayed due to real life, as well as making good on pre-plugin promises (i.e. the character journal gadgets).

I do want to say that this has not been abandoned by any means. All the zone maps have been set up, with just image editing remaining to merge the sub-zone parchment into the main zone, tile chopping, and then getting the bounds of the dev/game coords. In addition, I have a close to reliable helper application that will feed location data to the plugin (it works quite well - there's just a little issue with resuming after you load/unload the plugin). After that comes four main features I want to include in the next update.

1) The ability to add your own points to the map
2) Some method of being able to share existing map points - most likely through copying/pasting and commands
3) Map "hot spots" similar to the in-game parchment for easy navigation between zones.
4) The option to use a location "helper" application which will feed the application location/heading data.

For #3, I would also like to make zooming out further than the smallest current zoom, zoom out to region maps and finally the Eriador map, but due to the weird perspective on the Rhovanion map, this might require more work, and may not make it into the next update.

The last part is hopefully only temporary, until Turbine provides such data within the API. Regardless, due to acknowledging the unease some may have with using external applications, the plugin will work without this app. Of course, if you choose not to use this app, you will not be able to display your location on the map.

Again, I apologize for the delay and although I'm sorry that this is currently not working, you're really not missing a whole lot at this point. Unless of course, you really really like Lothlorien.

In that case - if you're feeling ambitious, here's a couple of tips to get it working.

1. Turbine.UI.Window is now not visible by default. So after every declaration of <some var>=Turbine.UI.Window, you need to add:
<some var>:SetVisible(true);
in the case that it's a class declaration, then the following must be added:
self:SetVisible(true);

2. Something really really funky has happened with list boxes with the November update. For whatever reason, it now becomes invisible to mouse contact after the first time you click + drag, and release. Meaning you won't be able to move the map around, and the coords won't show. In order to "fix" this, find the variable for the listbox, and make sure you do something like:

<listbox var>:SetMouseVisible(true)

in the MouseUp event handler for that listbox.

After you follow those two steps, it should work fine. Again, keep in mind this was only a proof-of-concept, and the most interesting thing about it is its potential. You'll be able to restore/minimize the window, browse Lothlorien in a zone-based Google Maps-like manner, see game coords for your mouse, switch between parchment/terrain views...and that's about it.

Thanks Turbine :p

There's an old saying that goes something like "If you want to make sure it's done right - do it yourself" - and that seems to be very apt right about now.

I figured, that maybe I could save some time by just rescaling the in-game parchment to the parchment map of the Lorebook's Google Map. That way I thought, I'd be able to easily crop out the terrain map based off of the size/location of the parchment map - and then save myself from having to plot out points on both, so I could match them up.

I mean, surely Turbine would've done their maps right....right? Or, maybe not. I started working on blending the Rivendell parchment into the Trollshaws map, when I noticed something quite disturbing. Rivendell wasn't matching up with the terrain map! I thought maybe I screwed up my markers - so I went in game, and saved a new set of reference points. Still - Rivendell was not matching up.

So I opened up the huge 7gb composite parchment map, pasted in the map that I cropped from it - and sure enough, they matched up perfectly. At this point I realized I wasn't to blame - the Trollshaws parchment simply doesn't match up to the Trollshaws terrain map. Not that this made me feel better, as it meant that I was going to have to go back in game, make reference points not only between the Trollshaws map and the Rivendell map; but also screenshots of the radar - to make reference points on the terrain map (which required opening up the equally huge terrain composite).

So anyway, long story short - Trollshaws parchment (not full size) is complete, and perfectly scaled to the terrain map. The problem now is whether to go on as if this were a fluke, or go through the zones and do it manually just to make sure they line up correctly.

It don't work / can you help me?

I am from germany; so maybe you can write german or write in a "easy" english, because in this case it could be difficult to understand what to do.
Just write what file i have to edit ... i dont's understand your posting below , because you don't say which file you mean.
I did everything all right ... it should work
when i type "/zusatzmodule laden lotromaps" or (in english, i have to type that in german, cause i am on a german server) "/plugins load lotromaps"
there only is ("zusatzmodul "lotromaps" geladen") "plugin lotromaps loaded" [or something like that]
It is the same problem like in the comment below, i think!
Can you just say which file you mean i have to edit ->

Thank you and sorry for my bad english

Problems with palantir

I have been using palantir ever since I play but I cannot get lotromaps to work along with it.
Both use the same plugin folder and some common files.
No matter wich direction I decide to overwrite (keep palantir files or use lotromaps) for the common files it will break the plugin I am not using the files.

Would appreciate help to make them work together as both are your plugins and both great.
I have been searching around but not found any tutorial so far

Thank you

I like you're map plugin and hope you get time to work on it.

Garan has a map plugin that has parchment and annotations but no terrain map at MoorMap. One nice thing about his plugin is he put together a work around for the unneeded items remaining in memory you may want to look at.

Sadly, due to time constraints, in addition to, at the time, a doubt that Turbine was going to actually add more to the API, I kinda let this project fall by the wayside for now.

Although the recent response from Turbine regarding the Lua API was encouraging, right now I have two priority LotRO projects (Thelyn & of course, Palantir) that I'm working on. Leaving me no time in at least the next 2-3 months to work on anything else.

Once Thelyn and Palantir v2 are released and stable, I would very much like to pick this back up and give it the attention it deserves. I apologize for starting something I apparently couldn't finish in a timely manner - but it looks like I bit off more than I could chew.

As The Old One mentioned, Garan has created a nice "static" map plugin that accomplishes a good deal of what I wanted to do with this - minus the Google Map like functionality. While this means you won't be able to zoom & pan those maps, it also means that memory usage is a lot lower. So until I can get back to working on this (and even after, if you don't have much RAM to spare) I would like to recommend using his instead.

Thank you all for the interest, and again, sorry for having to let this plugin fall by the wayside. I hope I have better news for you on the other side of RoI.

Hi there,

I want to know if you found some more time to spend on LotroMaps?

Keep on going.
