Re: Ver 1.31

The map ver 1.31 doesn't seem to be working in Azanulbizar? I get an error trying to locate my current location.

Ver 1.31

Ver 1.31 is available. This version just fixes a few missing tiles due to terrain changes in U30 - notably the area around Dimril Dale (reported by Gotardo), Annuminas and a few pesky tiles around Weathertop that keep getting tweaked.

Thanks for reminding me about those. There are also a few in Annuminas that got replaced in a recent client update. I will post an update for these soon.

ok thank you for the info, I thought it was a mistake since if I remember correctly in the past it worked so I immediately wrote it mainly after your communication regarding POI errors with another user

I opened MoorMap and I clicked on the search and I entered the word "khazad ore" into the search bar, but I didn't find anything, so I checked it in the Terrain Map plug-in with the same result, and I see the icon I created.
Hi, that is a current limitation of the search functions in both MoorMap and TerrainMap. Since custom annotations are stored separately and in a different file type due to limitations on file usage, the search engine does not currently have access to custom annotations. This is something that has been on the ToDo list as part of revamping custom annotations in MoorMap and implementing them in TerrainMap. They will be included in the global search at some point but that functionality has not yet been implemented. Note, this functionality has been implemented for the local search (currently displayed map) in MoorMap (the silver magnifying glass icon), just not the global search (all maps, gold search icon).

I had not done a lot of posting in Eriador/Rhovani as I was focusing mostly on Elderslade/Ered Mithrin territories. Maybe the updated tiles with actual terrain caused my annotations to not show up some how? That's where I had been putting quite a bit of my attention to since my "main" four characters do not like to revisit a chest or cache.

So, I suppose my characters will just have to revisit and re-annotate. Unless I can somehow get the plugindata to pop in. Just must have been something I did. <shrug>
Since you are able to see some of your prior custom POIs, the icon is not the issue. It seems that something went wrong with the .pluginData files. It may still be worth pursuing this a bit further in case whatever happen could happen again. I will send you more detailed instructions in a private message.

How is the best way to report something like this to SSG? Under "New Ticket" there is nothing which seems appropriate.
Hi, those are indeed invalid tiles, however, you are using an outdated version of TerrainMap. Those two issues (and a dozen or so similar tiles scattered about Eriador and Mordor) are addressed in ver 1.29 and were already reported to SSG so there is no need to report them again. Once you update to ver 1.29, if you do run across any other oddities, please report them here. By reporting them here, I can not only fix TerrainMap but I also visit the location in-game to verify that the in-game resource is incorrect/duplicated and then I report it to SSG with the resource ID that is missing as well as which resource seems to have been duplicated so that they can track it down and fix it at their end.

Information in Game Tab (I picked one... lots of Terrainmap usage.)

I would take a screen shot, if you think one or more would help, but I don't see how to attach any images to messages.

I also turned off auto-load, tried other characters with "/plugin load terrainmap", but still just the Terrainmap POIs. dangit... what am I doing wrong? /plugins list shows 1.29.

I really like that I can see actual terrain now instead of just blank squares! Thanks for a super plugin!
I must admit, this one has me puzzled. I created a .pluginData file using the info you posted and the POI displayed quite nicely right next to the Treasure Cache in Forochel. So, the good news is, it appears that your custom annotations still exist - or at least the one you used as a sample, they are just not displaying for some bizarre reason.

Since you verified that the display setting is correct, the next possible culprit to verify is the actual icon image. The custom POI icon actually consists of three possible image files (well, only two are actually used at this point, the third is for a possible future enhancement, but all three should exist). Please open File Explorer and navigate to the folder "Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\Plugins\GaranStuff\TerrainMap\Resources"
where "Documents" is your "My Documents" folder. There will be lots of files in this folder, but the three in question are:
CPOI_icon.tga
CPOI25.tga
CPOI50.tga
please verify that all three of these files exist and that you can double click them to open them (do not alter them, just open them to make sure you have access and they are not somehow corrupted).
Please let me know the result.

Please also be sure that the Errors channel is enabled in your chat window and look to see if any errors occur as you move the map around an area that should have a custom annotation - right click the tab on your chat, click "Change Filters" and verify that "Errors" is checked. If there is an issue with the icon file it should be generating an error message. You will have to temporarily resize TerrainMap to see the chat as you scroll around to see if any error messages are occurring.

Also, so that I can try to replicate the issue, do you also have MoorMap? If so, what version? This is the only other plugin that interacts with TerrainMap and should not be causing an issue but I want to be sure I am testing with the same environment that you have.

Hi, sorry to hear you are having a problem. Just updating would not cause the loss of any annotations and updating over the existing installation is the correct thing to do although I usually recommend using Lunarwtr's Plugin Compendium to install and maintain LotRO plugins.
https://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=663

The annotations are stored in .pluginData files in the folder
Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\PluginData\accountName\AllServers
where "Documents" is your "My Documents" folder and "accountName" is the game account name. The files are named "TM_Cust_Annot_R_V_H.pluginData" where R is the region (1-4), V is the vertical row of the tile group and H is the horizontal column of the tile group. Each file holds the annotations for a four tile square of the map. If you have more than one account, you will not see the annotations from another account but any character on the same account should see the annotations for that account.

First, please check that the filter option for Custom Annotations is still enabled. Load the plugin, right click on the plugin and the list of Annotation Icon Types will display - make sure that the entry for "Custom POI" is still checked.

Assuming that "Custom POI" is checked, I will need some additional information to determine what else may have happened. First, please check the folder listed above to determine if your custom annotation files still exist. If they do not, they were deleted by a process other than the update, perhaps accidentally while trying to reset settings for another plugin - it is common for authors to instruct users to delete a settings file (a .pluginData file) if it has become corrupt and is preventing a plugin from loading and users have sometimes deleted the wrong file or too many files. Note, if they were accidentally deleted and you happen to have MoorMap installed and the MM_CustomAnnotation files still exist, they can be used to recreate the TerrainMap Custom Annotation files - if this is the case, let me know.

If the files do still exist, it will be necessary to see if they actually hold any data. Unfortunately, it is normal for some of the Custom Annotation files to be basically empty (no actual data entries) since SSG's Lua does not allow deleting files, just writing empty data, so deleting annotations can cause a file to be basically empty. In File Explorer, please sort the .pluginData files in the folder listed above and open (use Notepad or any other text editor) the first one that starts with TM_Cust_Annot with a string of numbers - that will be the most recently altered custom annotation file and unless you recently deleted annotations, it should hold at least one annotation. Do NOT make any changes to the file. A blank file (one without any valid annotations) looks like:
Code:
return
{

}
A file with a single annotation will look like:
Code:
return
{
	["1"] = "1_204_40_183_28_55_Entrance_Entrance%20from%20cellar"
}
Note, it is normal to have a number of "empty" placeholder files if you have deleted any custom annotations so the existance of one or more does not necessarily mean something has gone wrong. If, however, you sort the files by date and look at the most recent files and they are all empty, that would seem to indicate that something went wrong. Please let me know what you find and we can continue from there.
