Crafting Panel

Description
About the time SoM came out, I realized skins were capable of making some changes I felt the crafting panel desperately needed. But no one had done anything with the crafting panel. So I did some learning, and put together a restructured crafting panel with a much longer list of recipes. I hoped I could have put the regular ingredient panel and the mastery panel adjacent to each other, so you could see both at the same time. Unfortunately while I had the space for this, you could only see one at a time. So I left them overlaid, but rearranged them to better fit.

In the course of learning what I was doing, I looked at several other skins on this site. In particular, I took apart Brygard's mail skin which showed 10 mails at once. Since I very much liked the idea of being able to see more mail as well, I focused on how this skin worked while learning. My tweaks to Brygard's work are included in this mod.

Finally, I removed the close boxes from each backpack bag. They're not something I would ever use, and with the SoM ability to change the right toolbar buttons, I expect most people don't use these close buttons either. With these close boxes gone, I shortened the bag windows slightly.

It is not my intent with these tweaks (or any tweaks I add to this collection in the future) to change the "feel" of the LotRO interface. Simply to make existing panels more useful.

Enjoy!

- Amalise

Very nice

I agree the layout is very nice and very usable, especially for wide screen. I've been using the elongated crafting panel but I'm switching to this one to see how usable it really is.

Well done...can't wait to see more work!

I also agree that this is a very convenient and useful skin! I am going to try it out because I hate how squished everything can get on laptop screens lol

Thanks everyone. I wasn't expecting such a positive response so quickly. ^_^

It should work with smaller resolutions fine. It's no taller than the original crafting window, and not quite as wide as the Auction House window (I know, as that's where I borrowed the background from).

Very nice looking!

I sure will give it a try, but at the moment im testing mrjackdaws Widecraft, check it out

The only thing that bothers me about your skin is the two buttons for
normal and mastery panel, they look like they don't fit in 100%. I like the original buttons to much i gues but they are rly nice^^ if im going to use it I will first modifie the image to look just a little bit more like the original, hope that's ok.
Except the buttons this is a high-class job, vell done!

True, the background is NOT the same as the original crafting panel, nor are the Recipe/Mastery buttons. It was impractical to slice the original panel background up and and try to re-create it. Also I felt the "industrial" style was a bit oppressive; added to the "tight" feel of the crafting panel; and didn't fit the rest of the UI. So I didn't particularly try to keep the background anyway.

The buttons I kept as closely styled to the original (they are the original anvils, and the same color) as possible. But I specifically wanted prominent buttons. I get really frustrated when I start a batch of farming, and forget to switch to the mastery panel and consequently make a set of poor fields. So I wanted the mastery button to be close to the Make button, and obviously enabled.

You're welcome to different opinions. ^_^

The Multi-Output Button

The "multi-output" button that appears for multi-output recipes...
...appears behind the "make all" and "make" buttons.

It's -supposed- to be above the recipe name, at the top of the form. Grr...

I'm trying to find a way to debug this which doesn't require posting a dozen non-functional patches to this site and hoping. Unfortunately my crafters are all lower level still, so I don't have any multi-output recipes.

I think I've found a local guildie who can help me debug. Sorry for the slow response.

Now I'm confused...

Okay, so I have no idea how to upload an "updated" version of my mod.

The "patch" version is a complete copy of the mod, with the multi-output recipe button fixed.

If anyone can tell me how to fix the downloads, I will.

Is there a way to integrate this into Delving Hills (http://www.lotrointerface.com/downlo...ngHills.html)? If so, please let me know.

I would also like to know if its possible to integrate this into other ui's. I love the look of http://www.lotrointerface.com/downlo...pMeSoMIvy.html but would love to use your tweaks as well.

Integration

Adding my tweaks to another UI shouldn't be difficult. I've been careful to keep things cleanly separated; so if you only wanted to use one tweak you could.

Each UI element (crafting panel, mailbox) has a separate folder in the ZIP file for the images used by that element. If there is not a folder, there are no graphics. The exception to this is the file invisible.tga in the main mod directory, which I put there so any elements could use it.

So, step one would be copying the image directory/directories into the mod you wanted to use.

Next, the slightly trickier bit. Whatever mod you use has a text file SkinDefinition.xml in the main directory. You'll have to edit this file, and copy sections from my SkinDefinition.xml to the one of the mod you are adding it to.

In my SkinDefinition.xml, the code for each UI element is separated from other code sections by 2 blank lines. Each also starts with a comment describing what UI element that section modifies. Copy the code for each UI element you want into the SkinDefinition.xml file for your main mod. I think you can just paste them at the bottom of the file and they'll override any changes earlier in the file. But I don't promise that. If possible, remove sections from the other mod which also modify the same UI elements. Unfortunately, editing all the other mods out there is beyond my knowledge.

If you're wanting layout from my mod, but backgrounds and art from another mod... You're mod authoring.

I thought I saw some documentation on this site about combining mods. But that was awhile back, and I can't find it now.

Finally, authors are welcome to use my tweaks in their own skins, so long as they give me credit. Maybe the authors of your skins would be interested. ^_^
