Sadly, the limitations of the plugin system make it very unlikely that it will be worth spending any more time on this plugin. No network support will make uploading/downloading tile sets a chore, and the fact that the plugin system will keep all images that are loaded, in memory, just makes this type of map very unfeasible on this platform.

If you really want a map plugin, Garan's MoorMap is probably the best you're going to see within the plugin system.

It's important to note however, that while this project is more or less canceled, I haven't given up on the idea of a google-style map that can be easily viewed while playing. If LotROMaps is going to move forward, it's most likely going to be on mobile devices.

I haven't played in years, but unless WB Games has significantly updated the plugin system to eliminate the issue(s) I pointed out in the description, there's really no point.

This was originally done as a proof of concept in the early days of plugin support, but at the time, any external images stayed in memory, and there was no way to access game assets like the minimap tiles. Which would result in not only a massive download if I were to do every zone, but using it would also steadily increase the game's memory usage with every zoom level, and every tile loaded.

Because of those reasons, I felt it simply wasn't feasible or worth it to continue working on it, and just uploaded it as a way to show the potential of the plugin system. If these two issues have been addressed (which I doubt), then I may bring it back to life. Otherwise, it'll just have to remain dead.
