I'm in a secondary combat. If the red bar fills up the white bar, the combat timer will reset.
 
Description
Introduction

MinstrelBuff is a great interface for showing a minstrel which ballads and anthems are active, and how long until the anthems expire.

Ballad Expiration

All ballad descriptions include the text "Expires if out of combat for 9 seconds". However, this is an incomplete summary of when ballads do and do not expire. For example: Cry of the Chorus gives you three ballad buffs even if you have been out of combat for 9 seconds.

As of December 2020, the game logic works like this:
  • Let's call entering combat after being out of combat for more than nine seconds a "primary combat". When you leave a primary combat, a nine second timer starts counting down. When the timer expires, your ballad buffs also expire.
  • Let's call entering combat while the timer is counting down a "secondary combat". You must stay in a secondary combat for five seconds before it resets the combat timer. That is, if it takes you less than five seconds to enter and leave combat, the original timer continues counting down as if you had not entered combat.
  • There's a big exception to this, however: If you are in combat when the current timer expires, it refreshes the timer even if the combat ends in less than five seconds.
  • Cry of the Chorus and Major Ballad (Resonance Stance) start the nine second timer if: the player is not already in combat, there is not already a out-of-combat countdown happening, there is not already a Major Ballad countdown happening, and there is not already a Cry of the Chorus countdown happening.
  • Entering combat with a Cry of the Chorus countdown or a Major Ballad (Resonance Stance) countdown active is treated like starting a secondary combat, so you must then stay in combat for 5 seconds to refresh the timer.

This patch adds two timers:
  • a timer that shows when your ballads buffs will expire. This combat timer starts off white, and when less than five seconds remain it turns yellow.
  • a red timer that shows how long you need to remain in a secondary combat before the combat timer is reset. This happens when the red timer fills up the remaining combat timer completely.

This patch does its best to mimic the game logic, however it can occasionally incorrectly predict when the ballads will expire. If you have steps to reproduce an incorrect timer, please comment below and I'll see if I can update the patch to match!

Soliloquy of Spirit / Inner Strength Tracker

New in v1.9.1.3, you can enable the Soliloquy Tracker in Options. Once enabled, this will pop up a window whenever you use Soliloquy of Spirit on a target, showing your current Soliloquy of Spirit stacking (0 to 3) and current Inner Strength Tier (0 to 3).

Example 1:

Affodil has three Soliloquy of Spirits and Inner Strength Tier 3. Toermalijn has only two Soliloquy of Spirits and Inner Strength Tier 2. Because her Inner Strength is not Tier 3, the background is red.

Example 2:

Affodil has three Soliloquy of Spirits and Inner Strength Tier 3. Toermalijn has only two Soliloquy of Spirits but Inner Strength Tier 3. Because she does not have all three Soliloquy of Spirits, the background is yellow.

Melodic Interlude

New in v1.9.1.7, you can enable the Melodic Interlude Window in Options. Once enabled, this will pop up a window whenever your Freedom trait triggers the Melodic Interlude Effect. This effect unlocks healing for a friendly target while in Dissonance stance for 10 seconds.

War-Speech

New in v1.9.1.7, you can enable the War-Speech display in Options. Once enabled, this will draw an 8-second timer below your ballads for each War-Speech. This effect grants +5% Tactical Damage, and visualizing them helps you to keep three War-Speeches active.



Support for more than 3 anthems

New in v1.9.1.7, the 'Window - Standard' theme supports up to 6 different anthems simultaneously. The window will grow in size if there are more than 3 anthems.




Installation and Setup

To install:
  • First, you need to install MinstrelBuff v1.9.1. This patch only includes the necessary changes to update that plugin. To install it, you can use Plugin Compendium, or just unzip the archive and drag the "MinstrelBuffs" folder into your "Documents/The Lord of the Rings Online/Plugins" folder. (If you have not previously installed any plugins, you will have to first create the Plugins folder.)
  • Next, download this patch and unzip it. It also contains a "MinstrelBuffs" folder, which you should drag into the same place as before. You will be prompted to overwrite files. Answer yes.

To load the plugin, use the game's built-in Plugin Manager. This can be found in the "^" menu, at the bottom of the screen, or by typing /plugin manager into your chat window.

When the Plugin Manager opens, find MinstrelBuff in the list on the left side. Verify that the version is 1.9.1.7. (If it is 1.9.1, then you have not properly installed the patch. If it is 1.9.1.1 etc. then you have not properly updated the patch.) Click "Load" to load the plugin. If you would like the plugin to load automatically each time you login, choose your character's name in the "Automatically Load For" pulldown menu.

Hi, if you are still active on lotrointerface, could you maybe include my language fixes into you file?

ValidBalladEffectsDe stays the way it is.

ValidAnthemEffectsDe, just like in english, changed the writing of the 3A Anthems and some naming, it's now one of them per trait line.

Thanks for releasing the new version!

After trying it out, I've the following problems (using german as language):
- The new version is still labeled as 1.9.1.3
- The tracker doesn't work. I tried it in combat on myself or with others.
- The "Enter combat" option doesn't seem to work, too. I activated the debug options manually, but I can't enter combat without a real combat. Ok, I can't really check it because the SoS window doesn't appear.
- The MinstrelBuff plugin doesn't even recognize the Anthem of the Third Age (Resonance). I tried to rename the effects but no change.

I re-installed the plugin manually few times, but it didn't help.

If you're playing with the German client, then that's the reason. You can see in Plugins\MinstrelBuffs\MinstrelBuffWindow\Strings.l ua which strings are needed. Specifically SOLILOQUY_OF_SPIRIT_PATTERN for detecting that Soliloquy of Spirit has happened at all.

With today's maintenance downtime and tomorrow's patch downtime it may be a few days before I can track these down myself.

edit: It doesn't work. I added the strings but the window will not appear. Even changing the file from ANSI to UTF-8 to avoid special characters problems in german didn't solve it. I've to look again tomorrow.

I think another problem is the different message in german with quotation marks (?) in it. I don't know how to add them into the string.

It was a little bit rough, but the german translation in the game is sometimes horrible, just horrible. I got it working with the following string, which is somewhat insane:

The translator decided to put "the" before every character name. The Akuserian, the Farothhen etc. This is not just insane, this is stupid. Adding those quotations marks is the second part of it.

Deutsche Übersetzung für das Plugin:
Ich habe die Datei Strings.lua als UTF-8 gespeichert, um Probleme mit den Umlauten zu vermeiden. Ihr könnt gerne einen anderen Begriff als "Selbstgespräch Tracker" benutzen. Mir war es letztendlich egal, da ich eher spiele als die Optionen zu lesen.

This messes me up, I pulled the quotes out of my MinstrelEffects.lua, all the minus are regular "dash" symbols and they are all the same according to my editor. And it works on my minstrel, are we talking about "Hymne des Dritten Zeitalters - Dissonanz" and "Resonanz" ?
I'm just trying to understand what went wrong and how.

There was no problem with your code, it seems it happened during copy&paste on b4's side. I just wanted him to check the "minus" (Bindestrich) in the actual plugin files.

There are a few things bugging me when using the plugin:

- The anthems in the plugin are not up to date. Two of them seems to be deleted from the game (Compassion & Free People), so the fixed anthems themes are showing the wrong pictures. I edited the MinstrelEffects.lua, changed the list of the anthems to utilize this change and edited the background pictures with black squares, so that a change in the order of the anthems won't effect the visual experience. I also splitted the Third Age anthems into different positions - please read my second point.

- You're capable of playing more than three anthems when switching your trait trees. All of the flexible themes doesn't show the fourth/fifth/sixth anthem in a good way. Is there any possibility to extend the window? I haven't found the right spot to change it, perhaps I've to extend the background pictures, too. Any help?

- I also completed the german translation for the whole plugin (except the theme names). It's just local on my computer, if you want it, just send a message.

Thanks for covering my changes in the stream and finetune them. I'm not a programmer and learned most of the things regarding the lua scripts from Plugin Along.

There are a few things I found out after watching episode 32 of Plugin Along:
  1. During the last week I had the problem that the plugin mostly didn't work when I used it in the game. I doublechecked the strings, edited the files while playing, converted some of them into UTF-8 and reloaded the plugin etc. It worked sometimes and I started to become frustrated, but still posted the strings for others as you have seen before.

    Today I remembered the file "TitanBarMaintenance.txt" of the plugin TitanBar:

    All files are encoded in ANSI.
    Some of them were encoded as UTF-8 at some point but I had some interesting results while using them (didn't pick up reputation gain as an example).
    I converted them back to ANSI because of that.
    Because the files are encoded in ANSI you have to use code for special characters. You can find the most commonly used in the "code.txt" file.
    After reading about the problems converting files to UTF-8, I made a clean installation of MinstrelBuffs, patched it with your files and added the german strings with the corresponding equivalents of the special characters (I only needed the "ä" -> \195\164), keeping all the files as ANSI.

    I patched the plugin and since then I don't have any issues (fingers crossed). I think you've to change this for the french language, too.

  2. As I mentioned in my last post, the pictures of the fixed anthems are misleading. To prevent any additional work after a possible icon change in the future, I edited the pictures as followed:

    Upper part: OLD fixed anthems (wrong icons)
    Middle part: ACTIVATED fixed anthems (wrong icons are overwritten with totally different anthems, first and foremost if you changed the order)
    Lower part: NEW fixed anthems (neutral icons, it doesn't matter what you play or how you sort the anthems)

    I can e-mail you the edited pictures for comparison. Just send me a message.

  3. I had to change the hyphens in the german anthem part into short/normal ones, otherwise the anthems won't be working. It would be great if you could test this next week to verify it.

P.S.: German is sometimes an aweful language to speak - it sounds funny but you did a great job! I'm sorry for that.

I will keep working on language issues for MinstrelBuffs. This week was a save file issue. Next week I will see how it works for German and French. I can also play with UTF-8 versus ANSI
