I've been having an issue with BuffBars now for a while. I've re-installed it several times but what I'm getting is when I try to open up the Options menu. I get a basic Options list with nothing in it and within the "middle" pane it says: "There are no options available for this plugin." and I get the following errors in my chat windows.

...ugins\PengorosPlugins\BuffBars\EffectBarSetting s.lua:158: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value)

...ugins\PengorosPlugins\BuffBars\EffectBarSetting s.lua:158: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value)

I am unable to motify my Heal/Power Pots, etc.

What am I missing? Please help as I love this Plugin.

See RJferret's post below, this fixed that problem for me

''PS: For those not seeing Options (IE, upgrading from version 1), you want to remove the BuffBarsSettings.plugindata file from each character's PluginData folder. (And then set things up how you want them.) The PluginData folder is one up from the Plugin folder, then you go into plugindata/account_name/server_name/each_character_name and yank out the old settings file.''

Am I to do this with every character PluginDate file? or just the one I'm currently trying to use. I deleted this file for my character I'm actively using now but still I have the same issue. This did not fix anything. I will certainly be happy to delete the PluginData Settings file for each player but if this is the issue I think deleting it for the character I'm activly using should be efficient enough, but still BuffBars is broken for me.

The last update fixed most of my problems - the blacklist feature seems to be working properly for the windows now. Yay!

Are the blacklist/trigger features supposed to be there for the sliders as well? When I right-click on the slider icons all I see is Options.

It's possible, but tricky, you need to know the name of the effect of the buff (like "Guardian's Ward" or cappy's "Defending" or burg's "Aiming").

Now create your new bar/slider/whatever and in Effect Triggers, remove anything listed there, then add a new one. In the Template dropdown, select Custom. In the Match Criteria Search, enter a word from the buff.

I've done his for all my characters, and it makes it a lot easier to keep things up optimally (not wastefully hitting another skill too soon, or leaving yourself without a benefit).
Thanks RJFerret, it worked fine!

I think the key item to remove is the "Undefined Buff" item. This is the one which allows the window to show *any* buff and forces you to have to blacklist them all. Am I right?

@Pengoros:
Regarding the locale: It might be best for you not to take into account the user's locale when deciding what symbols to use for separator and decimal point. You decide what those should be and stick to it. That way the config files will work on any locale, if transferred, or if dual-booting with different locales.

Arrgh!
PLEASE let me manage my BuffBars options without having to go through LOTRO's plugin manager (L-PM)!

My LOTRO client crashes 1-2 times a play session (about 3 hours), possibly due to BuffBar's reliance on the L-PM.

My setup:
I autolaunch BB with the Bootstrap plugin.
To manage my BB settings, I use the Bootstrap menu feature where, with two mouse clicks, the command "/buffbars options" is entered.
When doing this, the L-PM window launches with the BB Options tab selected.
With one to two crashes a session, all but one crash was related to managing my BB options through the L-PM window.
The outlier was also related to plugin management.

Based on what I've read while troubleshooting, my crashes may be due to a bug in the current L-PM, a "black screen crash" requiring a hard-switch poweroff and reboot.
See some discussion about this by other folks at LOTRO Forums.
Note: At the forum link above, Evendale, developer of the CombatAnalysis plugin that BuffBars uses for some features, confirms and comments on this bug.

Before RoR and BB v2.0, I never had a LOTRO client crash.

Note: I've seen some comments that using DX9 instead of DX10/11 might solve the crashes and will try it.
But still, the L-PM bugginess is very disappointing coming as it does from the game's own developers.
Further, to me it appears BuffBars requirement to use L-PM creates a situation where bugs in a critical feature are due to software the BuffBars developer cannot fix (ie the reported crashes).

Commentary:
In my opinion, based on previous and current experience, LOTRO's Plugin Manager is unnecessary, buggy, and poorly supported.

In comparison, the plugins I use from LOTROInterface, including BuffBars, have been excellent and developers like Pengoros very responsive.

I really hope Pengoros is not for some reason required to use L-PM to manage BB options because then a critical function of BB relies on buggy 3rd party software that Pengoros has no way to fix.

Yes, you have to do it for each character. And you cannot do it while that character is logged in. You must log out, delete the file, then log back in (you don't have to actually exit the client).

I am encountering the same issue on version 2.0.3 with the lua error message, even after following the steps to delete the plugin data, restarting, etc. Tried deleting and re-downloading the folder as well. Still not bringing up the options.

Is there a stable version you can recommend I can roll back to until this is fixed?

Thanks!

Did you delete all config files? There is one file for every character. I've no problems since 2.0.3.

Farothhen wrote (likely in reply to Jasnath): Did you delete all config files? There is one file for every character. I've no problems since 2.0.3.

I've had no client crashes in my two sessions since 2.0.3.

BTW: To expand on Farothhen's re: deleting config files, I think he means specifically the character-specific BB settings file located in these sorts of directories:
(on a Win7 machine)
C:\Users\[CPU-name]\Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\PluginData\[LOTRO username]\[LOTRO server]\[LOTRO character name]\BuffBarsSettings.plugindata

Pengoros' release notes for v2.0.1 said players should delete their BuffBarsSettings.plugindata file if a particular bug was encountered.

While I did not have the bug Pengoros mentioned, I was getting one similar to Jasnath, asyncritus, etc. where BB simply wasn't working.
This resolved on deleting the character-specific BB settings files.

Sadly I had to re-do all my unique quickslots for morale, power, food, edhelharn tokens, battle & warding lore, [sigh].
But that was more than counterbalanced by getting BB working again.

On another matter.
Does BB now rely on the chat handler?
If so, I've a few questions because I've seen other, less intensively developed, plugins (ie PartyFrame) caveat their performance by saying because they use the chat handler, the plugin might conflict with others that also use the chat handler.

General questions:
What is that chat handler conflict?
Is it still a problem in the current LOTRO implementation?
What plugin behavior should I see if that conflict happens?

BB-specific:
Was some specific coding added to BB to avoid that chat handler conflict?
Could that chat handler conflict have been behind client crashes I thought were due to something in BB v 2.0.0?

Thanks

Well, finally did get it working correctly

I literally removed EVERYTHING plugin related, and started over from scratch. This includes the plugins themselves, as well as all data files. Only VERY rarely will the plugin manager cause the crash on log out/char swap (as it doesn't ''select'' a plugin unless you actually do it yourself working with one). All effects and actions are working properly now including adding/editing pots/effects/triggers in the manager.

Seems anything else is solely a problem with the plugin manager, which I'd really rather not have to deal with anyway. Accessing each plugin via command was just fine for me

ugins\PengorosPlugins\BuffBars\EffectBarSettings.l ua:158: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value)

Get that message mot times I try to access the optionstab. It just says "no options available".

I deleted the plugindatafiles and reinstalled sooo many times, but the bug keeps happening.

Any idea? I dont want to set up buffbars every 2-3 days...

Have you tired using (also from lotrointerface.com) PluginCompendium?
Using it might be a good way to be sure everything is installed where it needs to be and is up to date.

An odd request

Hello. I'm a fan of this plugin. I'm wondering if you can do me a favor and add a new function to buffbars.
I'm a warden and although buffbars helps a lot with my tanking ability when it shows me which selfbuff gambit is active, I can't actually see my avoidance stat unless I hit 'C' to open character panel. I'm wondering if you can add this new function to show a window with just B/P/E stat and their percentage. It would help the warden class a lot.

I get the same error no matter what I use to install/run the program. I have used Plugin Compendium, Manager, and the LotRO manager and I still get the error. Any ideas?
