Description
DESCRIPTION

Missed something said in chat? Chatterbug is a plugin to filter the
chatlog in real time, so you can follow roleplay, tales, and song lyrics.

Type a username in the search box and it will show what that player is
saying. Or use it to search for emotes and speech directed at you.

INSTALLATION

Unzip the zipfile and place the "Astleigh" folder in "Documents\The Lord of
the Rings Online\Plugins".

If you already have an "Astleigh" folder from installing other plugins,
move the "Chatterbug" folder and "Chatterbug.plugin" into "Astleigh".

USAGE

In game, load it by typing:

/plugins load chatterbug

Toggle visibility of the window with:

/chatterbug show
/chatterbug hide
/chatterbug toggle

Enter a username or search term in the search box to filter the chatlog.
Hitting ENTER will unfocus the search box.

Click "settings" to configure the chat channels that are displayed.

"Clear history" will clear Chatterbug's chat buffer.

KNOWN BUGS

* The display doesn't scroll all the way to the bottom after receiving
long text lines.

* Some emotes won't display when the emote channel is enabled. This
seems to be limited to non-targeted emotes, and emotes that don't have
user-added text (eg. /dance, /smoke).

WARNING

Use caution when showing the "combat" channel. During fighting, this
channel can accumulate a lot of text (in testing, about 1MB after running
a raid skirmish). Attempting to display this much text can crash the
client.

Up to 100K of text can be displayed before there are issues. The current
buffer size can be found in the settings window.

Click the "Clear history" button in the settings window, or unload
Chatterbug before combat.

World Chat Searching?

Is there any way to search for words in the world chat? I think this is the most useful reason to use it but seems to be missing.

Re: Request

Hi Moonmint,

Thanks for the suggestion. Can you help me understand your use case a bit?

Here is what it sounded like you are saying: you are using chatterbug to check for chat directed at you (or something similar), but don't want to have to type your name into the search box every time you load the plugin. You are looking for a way to tell chatterbug to enter the string for you when it loads.

What about if it remembers what was typed in there from the last time you used the plugin?

Here is another possibility (assuming again you are looking for chat with your name in it): what about a checkbox in settings to match any text with your name in it, *in addition* to whatever search terms you've entered in the main window? The player's own name can be found using the lua API, so if that's all you're interested in, there is no need to manually enter it.

If you think having a fully configurable search string in the settings is preferable to these two alternatives, can you explain?

ps. Its not too much trouble to implement any of these things.

Request

Ok this may be too much to ask for but here goes.

I see there's a little space available on the settings panel under the user channels..

I've been using this plugin for a while and enjoy being able t catch missed chatter while i'm doing something else. I lOve it.

but i'm really lazy and would Love to be able to have a personal 'String' repeatable, instead of typing it in again and again..

i'm sure this woud be user friendly eg.

String = 'string' saved as settings data etc etc
with of course tyhe option to turn it on and off.

HAHAHA hope that's not too much to ask.
Thanks for making this.
